Balls go through his glove like it has a hole in it. His range is lacking. Balls that would routine plays were going through for hits. In addition, he appears to have no ability to turn a double play. This is only a 2 game sample so perhaps he just had a couple of bad games or there is another problem.

My point is he is not yet ready.

What makes you say that? Did he make errors, no range?

.
I’ve seen too many power pitchers come and go, who never got their command down. This has been his issue since college. Just not too optimistic at this point.
.
Higher on JT, altho, I still wished we had taken Machado.

So no one really thinks all that highly of DeJesus at this point, he’s just a minor league depth like Anderson Hernandez or someone like that.

He’s had issues with walks, so take a step back on the velo, simplify the pitch selection, and get comfortable. That resulted in fewer hits than innings pitched and only 2 BB in 6 innings, so in that aspect, I’d call the game a step in the right direction. Justin Verlander works mostly in the 93-94 range throughout games…but you always know he has that 101 in his back pocket if he really wants to turn it up. Personally, I don’t think enough pitchers with plus velocity play around with their fastball speeds; if you can throw 96, then awesome, but maybe slow it down to 91 or even 90 to get hitters off balance. You can achieve awkward swings without even having to throw a different pitch.

Instead, we have Josh Harrison, a career 2B, playing SS. The trade with Boston was positive just with Melancon, Pimental, and dropping the $7 mil owed to Hanrahan for 2013, but my interpretation of it was that we thought that DeJesus would be able to return to Shortstop, where he was the heir apparent for the Dodgers until breaking his leg in 2010 I think. When he came back a year or more later, Dee Gordon had stolen the job and DeJesus was moved to 2B, then traded to Boston where they had way too many SS in the first place. I like the fact that Jordy Mercer has separated himself from the pack, and hope that he continues to produce at the MLB Level, but are we giving up on DeJesus as a SS? Never read anything about his performance at SS in ST, but the positioning of the current group would indicate he is a 5th wheel.
