He almost seems uncoordinated . We all know he is not. He’s just awkward. He will work the kinks out. The potential is there to be every bit as good as Cutch and Marte as an all around athlete. We are set up in the OF for a long time. So much that I could see them turning Josh Bell into a 1st basemen if he reaches his potential at the plate and god willing they all make it.

He may be a better center fielder than he is a left fielder. I would like to hear more about Polanco’s defensive issues and his defensive strengths.

You’re talking about future potential with Polanco, compared to what those three actually are. Polanco has some defensive issues at the moment, but they are mostly due to him being a bit raw.

If I were setting up the outfield, I’d go Marte in CF, McCutchen in LF, and Polanco in RF. So I guess I’d put Polanco between your McCutchen and Marte grades (A-/B+).

Cutch is a B in CF. Gorkys is an A+ in CF. Marte is a A in CF. Polanco is a(n) ___ in CF.

“I know the lefty righty thing”

Snider can’t hit lefties, which is why he is being benched. Inge can hit lefties, which is why he is playing. Presley hasn’t been able to hit LHP in the majors. And really, Tabata hasn’t been able to do it that well either, which is why they’ve got Inge playing.

Ironically, in a small sample size, Inge has been better vs RHP than LHP so far.

Starting a game with 3 bench players and sitting 3 starters is poor management IMO.

Although his output has been pretty darn good, I doubt the Pirates promote him after only one month of play. There also could be other issues they are working on with him not related to his swing (defense, fundamentals, etc). Regardless, it seems pretty clear by the end of the summer, Polanco will be in AA.
