Weiss and Borden are apparently also going to be over-slot. if they sign, although I’m not sure why Weiss would be a tough sign. And assuming Meadows has an agent, I doubt that he will be involved in the negotiations until they get a number agreed upon with the agent.

I can’t imagine JaCoby being a terribly tough sign, LSU is going to have very few players back next year, and $600K is a lot of money. And I suspect the Bucs will be willing to go up to Frazier money to sign Meadows, but they’d probably rather not pay the tax (75% of $500K may not sound much when it’s somebody else’s money, but we’d all take it a lot more seriously if asked to contribute).

I do not think Meadows will pass up the opp and I would not be concerned if the Pirates paid him the same as Clint Frazier (No. 5, $3.5 mil). I think he would sign for that or we can wait to see what happens with No. 6 Moran and No. 7 Trey Ball – his number will be closer to them than to the guy the Royals took at No. 8. If the Pirates run over I would not mind paying a fine, but we should not give up a draft pick. LSU had 8 Seniors dominating the team, so I would not expect JaCoby Jones to want to spend his Senior year in that condition. He could possibly ask and get overslot dollars, and I think he is worth it – just turned 21 and can play any position in the infield.

I am just waiting to hear everything,” Meadows told TheClemsonInsider.com.,…”I am just sitting back waiting to hear more.”

I wonder how these negotiations typically play out under the new agreement. Isn’t it just a question of how many thousand dollars over slot he can get the Pirates to give him?
