I watched the video twice – the breaking pitch is excellent, but most of what hit me was the poise, the flow, how well he repeats his delivery, and the way he hides the ball until the very last moment. The Pirates have arrived at that point where they have pitching prospects throughout the organization – a take-off from the Rays. Another kid who I think is a sleeper is Clayton Holmes who just turned 20, and is developing slower than the top 5 or 6 in the system.

That’s changing, but he does not yet make many top-100 lists. But a command and control pitcher gaining power pitcher stuff while remaining a command and control pitcher is very valuable. In fact, with respect to that elusive metric, pitchability, Kingham may be better than Cole and Taillon, both of whom have command and control problems and who often underperform given the quality of their stuff.
If the Pirates trade Kingham, they’d better get a very good return for him.

The variation in the movement on it is something I really like too. What’s the velocity range on that?

Sidebar: What a great tune in the video. That should be a staple at PNC.

I’m sure that’s exactly what Neil had in mind when he started drafting all these prep pitchers. It’s really promising.

His stuff doesn’t trail Taillon’s by much at all. Both of them have great 12-6 curveballs. I think he will be more than a #3. Heck, that might be his floor.
