They will finish the game today prior to the start of the regularly scheduled game. Altoona was off yesterday. For a look at the possible starters over the next few weeks, please check out our Probable Pitchers Chart. James McDonald gets his fourth rehab start tonight

James McDonald gets his second start with Indianapolis tonight

AAA: Indianapolis (44-22) vs Norfolk (38-27) 7:05pm
Probable starter: James McDonald (0-1, 7.36)
Yesterday’s Result: Norfolk 2, Indianapolis 1

James McDonald will get his fourth rehab start tonight. In his first game while with Altoona, McDonald recorded just two outs before being knocked out of the game due to his pitch count. In his second start, he was able to go four innings. McDonald was called up to Indianapolis for a start five days ago. He threw 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk, with two strikeouts. He was on an 80 pitch count limit in that game.

AA: Altoona (25-37) @ New Britain (30-32) 6:35pm
Probable starter: Stolmy Pimentel (3-3, 3.84)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona was off yesterday

Stolmy Pimentel will make his 13th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 70.1 innings this year, allowing 71 hits, eight homers and 29 walks. He has 56 strikeouts, a 1.10 GO/AO ratio and a .260 BAA. In his last start, Pimentel went six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits, one walk and he struck out seven batters. He had a tough month of May, going 0-3, 7.15 in six starts. He had a 0.30 ERA in five April starts. On the road, he is 1-1, 3.00 in six starts.

High-A: Bradenton (25-36) @ Lakeland (27-34) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Eliecer Navarro (1-9, 2.98)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton was suspended in 3rd inning down 1-0 to Lakeland

Eliecer Navarro will make his 11th start of the season today. He has also pitched twice in relief. Bradenton has six innings left to play from last night’s game, so there is a chance Navarro could pitch that game instead. He has pitched a total of 63.1 innings, giving up 58 hits, four homers and 12 walks. He has struck out 58 batters this season. Navarro hasn’t allowed a home run or walk to a left-handed batter this season. In his last start, he picked up his first win by throwing seven shutout innings.

Low-A: West Virginia (33-29) @ Delmarva (26-33) 6:05pm DH
Probable starter: John Kuchno (3-3, 4.73)  and Joely Rodriguez (4-4, 2.86)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia was rained out

Joely Rodriguez is listed as one of the starters for West Virginia today. He will make his 13th start of the season. Rodriguez has pitched 63 innings this year, allowing 62 hits, four homers and 17 walks. He has 50 strikeouts, a 2.07 GO/AO ratio and a .263 BAA. In his last start, he went three innings against this same Delmarva team before rained postponed the rest of the game. Rodriguez allowed one run on two hits and a walk, picking up the loss in the process. John Kuchno will likely start the other game. He will make his tenth start of the season tonight. He has also pitched twice in relief. As a starter, he is 2-3, 4.81 in 43 innings, allowing 49 hits, one homer and twenty walks. He also has 30 strikeouts, a 1.74 GO/AO ratio and .293 BAA in that role. As a reliever he has 12 strikeouts in 10.1 innings. In his last start, Kuchno gave up two runs over 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits, no walks and he struck out four batters. On the road, he is 0-2, 3.91 in five starts.

    John,
In your opinion, what happens if James Mac continues to do terrible in his rehab starts? Unless he really shines I don’t see how he can even be considered to rejoin the Bucco starting 5 – unless the injury bug continues biting us big time. He seems completely lost. And with a lot of guys in our pen having logged many innings it seems the last thing we would want to do is have JMac on the mound starting. He has a bad habit being at 80-90 pitches by the 4-5th innings meaning our pen has to come in and clean up his mess. I doubt he would bring much of anything in a trade – so what do we do with this guy?
