And that would be a HS hitter that will stick at a premium position rather than a college SP.

Mock drafts are often based on “consensus.” McGuire is a guy that scouts are divided on; some scouts think he won’t hit, others that he will. So his placement in the mock drafts is too high for the 1st group, and too low for the 2nd. Apparently the Bucs are in the 2nd group.

We really don’t know – if Shipley becomes Matt Harvey, then the pick was dumb. If McGuire becomes Joe Mauer, then the pick was brilliant. Check with me in 2018.

I like that we got a top 5 pick and the catcher that wasn’t supposed to last until 14 but if I’m the GM I snag Shipley too.

It sounds like he may also have a chance at lead off with the bat even if he doesn’t pick up in the power dept.

Most mock drafts had Shipley going no later than 6th

Who hits more ML HR’s? – Frazier by a mile. Who is the better bet to stick in CF? – I think Frazier here, also, although Tribe apparently thinking of trying him at 3B. Who is going to get more hits in the ML? – I think Meadows, hands down.

But there’s no point in worrying about this comparison – Bucs had no shot at Frazier. Better to worry about upside of Meadows vs. Dominic Smith, Phil Ervin, J.P. Crawford, etc. That’s how your draft is eventually evaluated.
