Pirates Sign 25th Round Pick Justin Maffei

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed 25th round pick Justin Maffei, according to Maffei on Twitter.

Maffei is a center fielder from the University of San Francisco. He had a .292/.362/.399 line in 253 at-bats this year, with five homers. He had good speed, and was effective on the bases with 76 stolen bases in his four years in college. He will likely play with one of the short-season teams.

The Pirates have now signed 11 players, and I’ve heard the initial number of signings is about a dozen. Seventh round pick Buddy Borden is another guy who I’ve heard has agreed to sign, but I haven’t been able to confirm that yet.
