A big indicator of whether a guy can hit at higher levels is K/BB. Allie has horrible strikeout rates, and those usually don’t improve as you move up. Also, the other guys you mention are a few years younger than Allie, so they’re still developing tools. So they’ve got more room for improvement than Allie.

Basically it’s looking past the numbers in low-A, and looking at the skills. To put it another way, Orlando Castro had amazing numbers in low-A, while Clay Holmes has struggled at the same level. But everyone would take Holmes over Castro because Holmes is a 6′ 5″ right-hander who throws 95, while Castro is a 5′ 11″ left-hander who bases his game off control. If you look at the numbers, Castro is better. If you look at the skills, Holmes is better. Prospect rankings are based on the skills, especially at low-A.

None of them have that kind of power, Allie is 22 and his hitting is not a fluke, either way none of these guys are doing any better at lower levels than he is. If you want to say Allie still has to prove he can hit at higher levels, you have to say the same thing about them.
McGuire ranked ahead of Sanchez? hows that happen?

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I saw him in Columbus and he couldn’t make the throw to the 3B after strikeouts twice (bounced them) and threw a couple of throwdowns after warmups into centerfield. I hope he can get this straightened out soon. We are one foul tip off a catchers wrist from needing him.

Some pretty decent bats in that Norfolk lineup. Decent mix of prospects and younger vets including Brandon Wood and Chris “Neckbeard the Pirate” Snyder. Although I guess you really can’t call Wood good. You have to hand it to these guys that stick it out. Wood is still only 28. 450+ minor league XBH under his belt and counting. Thanks for the report on Ramierez buccotime.

You could tell that Harold Ramirez is a much more advanced hitter than his peers from both dugouts. Also, when he hit the ball you knew it, nice crack of the bat. Was robbed of a hit at the end of the game, looked like he was safe. I have been to several games at mahoning valley, including last years hr derby and have never seen a ball travel as far as dan collins HR. Overall, fun night to see some guys get going in the right direction.
