Player Of The Day
Deybi Garcia is a 21-year-old catcher in his third season in the DSL. He impressed with the bat during limited time in his first season, batting .313 in 15 games. Garcia threw out 30% of the 23 attempted base stealers during that rookie year. He returned to the DSL in 2012 and the hitting didn’t carry over. In 28 games, he hit .217, with a .632 OPS. Garcia’s caught stealing percentage dropped to 22%, but he made just one fielding error. In his third season, he is seeing much more playing time. He has played 20 games already, though his bat has been even worse than his disappointing 2012 season. Garcia is batting .177, with a .476 OPS. In his first season, he made good contact, striking out just four times. This year, he already has 15 strikeouts. He seems to be fine defensively, but if he is going to go further in the system, the bat is going to have to quickly turn around.
