A lot of guys have a stance that changes as the pitcher goes into his windup so while it looks odd, before the ball is even coming in, they are in a better position to hit already. Bell doesn’t drop that back elbow until he starts his swing, That is where the big difference is, he has a ton of movement between that and the leg kick/stride, that not only does it slow down his swing, it’s hard to get proper timing and it changes his eye level. It’s actually one of the reasons I like him a little more than I let on, he is doing pretty good with a bad swing. He’s got a quick bat and plenty of power, so the ability is there, just don’t think he is making the most of what he has yet

It almost looks like a pitchers leg kick on the mound. If he could tone down that leg kick but still keep a little bit of a kick to help him keep the timing, he might be able to do better. I’m not a profesional or anything but I’m not sure the elbow being high is much of an issue as I would think other MLB players have a similar batting stance.
.
I would imagine that the combination of the elbow being high and the odd leg kick is something not seen in the majors.

Looks better now. Might be inconsistent this year while he adapts to it.

He should return to baseball activities soon

Doesn’t look like a power hitter at all, just an athletic player. There are similarities to Presley, but Gourley is a versatile defender, just not great at any position from the little I’ve seen. He turned twenty-two during the series, so while he isn’t old, he’s older than most of the other regulars, so you should expect him to do good when you factor in how long he has been around pro ball

In regards to Gourley…he has been around awhile, but he was drafted right out of high school – some of these kids take 2-3 years to mature, gain confidence, etc. Sometimes, it seems, that the light just suddenly goes on.

I have never seen Gourley play, but the way you describe him, along with his physical build, would you describe him as a player similar to Alex Presley?

I am a little disappointed in Eric Wood this season, lets hope he finishes strong the second half. Any word on Wyatt Mathieson’s return??

It really helps bring to light your comments in describing the swing. You’re right, there is definitely a lot of movement there, and a lot of timing involved.
