Shows he is gaining plate discipline. His average isn’t skyrocketing, but is gradually getting better.
Reese McGuire is really slumping. His average is down to.447.

I think McKenry still has an option left and the Pirates probably want to save it for next year. Sanchez will be the back up next year and then McKenry will back up Sanchez once Martin leaves in 2015.

This was a kid who the experts said was MLB-ready defensively on draft day. I know a lot of that is hype, but I think the reason Tony has stayed down is Michael McKenry. He really helped last year and is a great clubhouse kid, but he cannot find second base on throws, and has only thrown out maybe 10% of guys trying to steal. And, his hitting has taken a big dip since last year. I fully expect Sanchez to come up and McKenry go down very shortly. He has extensive work with both Locke and Cole and relievers Watson, Wilson, Hughes, and Morris.

Is he really that rough defensively that he would be a downgrade as the back up? I’m hoping to see him in the second half sooner rather than later.

Not sure what the plan is for Black but there is a serious need for a closer with some teams.

Alex Dickerson is really making a push to be considered a top 20 prospect in the organization. He already is in my book at least in the top 10.

He hit a 3 run HR off of Jarrod Cosart in the 2nd inning to give the IL all the runs they needed making the score 4-2 at the time. Then Vic Black came in in the 9th – his first 5 fastballs were two 98′s and three 99′s and dropped a huge slider on the first batter to strike him out. Lots of talk about Black during and after the game, and what a huge prospect he is.
