As awesome as that rotation could be, how much better could it possibly be than this year’s? I guess it could do the same as this year’s staff for 6 – 8 years. A man can dream, huh?

After all he is still 19 years old! If it’s 2015, he’d be making his debut younger than Cole did this year. Crazy to think that’s possible, but it is.

Mark my words, 2013 won’t be remembered as the year the losing streak ended, it’ll be the year the winningest decade in Pirates history began!

So I’ll just chalk that up to you not being all that bright. Baseball is littered with thousands of players over the years who had breakout years, then struggled, then adjusted and were productive players. Kid didn’t touch a bat for almost 2 years. Played a couple months last year once he finally could swing a bat. First full year as a hitter since aluminum bats on high school in 2010 and he destroys the south Atlantic league, then struggles at a higher level for 4 weeks? And that for you is enough of a sample size to give up on pure, raw power? He has a left-side infielder glove at first base, which is a position known for power and strikeouts. People in Detroit were happy to trade 500 strikeouts over 3 years for 130 home runs by Cecil Fielder in the early 90′s. My god Rob Deer used to strike out 180 times for only 25-30 HR’s a year. Ryan Howard is a more recent example. There aren’t that many Albert Pujols-type first baseman over the years. He may hit 500 home runs and strikeout 2,000 times in the majors. He may never make it past AA. But Jesus its a little early to give up after less than one season as a hitter.

In the cases of both Kingham and Taillon, both spent the entire season at West Virginia to harness fastball-changeup control. Once this is completed, it seems the Pirates tend to let them loose and begin to promote the following year based on merit. I think the only thing holding Glasnow back now is his control and once that is squared away, he’s going to be moving up the ladder very quickly. Even with Cole’s promotion, we have four potential top of the rotation pitchers in the minors. That is just crazy

I don’t think it matters when Glasnow comes up to Bradenton. I think his timeline would have him finishing the 2014 season in Double-A, with a chance of Triple-A/MLB in 2015.

I don’t think you’re getting him up to the majors before that, unless he has some drastic improvements with his command and changeup in a short amount of time.

If I recall correctly, the Bucs usually keep the young prep arms at the level for the entire season, i.e. Taillon in 2011 in WVa all year, moved to Bradenton last year and just got a taste of Altoona at the end.
But Taillon didn’t dominated like Glasnow is. There doesn’t seem to be any challenge for him left at this level, other than control, which has gotten better recently. But that may be enough to keep in in Wva the rest of the season. Then if he keeps this up next year in Bradenton, move him up to AA mid-season instead of waiting until the end.

What does this even mean? Either the hype has to exceed the player or vice versa, so it’s menaingless babble to say both haven’t lived up to each other.

And good riddance indeed. By all means, cut him. And make it the organizations new procedure to cut everyone that struggles in their fisrt 50 ABs in a new level, even if they led their previous league in OPS. They’ll have about 3 position players at each level, including MLB, but at least we won’t have to watch guys struggle.

Heckler for GM!!!! #FreeHeckler (from intelligent conversation)
