Minor League Schedule: Kingham and Dickson Start Tonight

With the win over second place Columbus last night, Indianapolis improved their lead in their division to 11 games, with 20 games left on the schedule. Kingham was leading the FSL in strikeouts when he was promoted to Altoona

AAA: Indianapolis (71-54) vs Columbus (59-65) 1:35pm
Probable starter: Graham Godfrey (8-7, 4.21)
Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 5, Columbus 4 in 11 innings

Graham Godfrey will make his 14th start of the season. He has also pitched 13 times in relief. Godfrey started the season with Pawtucket, where he went 4-3, 3.83 in four starts and nine relief appearances. With Indianapolis, he is 4-4, 4.50 in nine starts and four relief outings. Godfrey has thrown a total of 98.1 innings, allowing 105 hits, 15 homers and 28 walks. He has 57 strikeouts, an 0.61 GO/AO ratio and a .269 BAA. In his last start, he went six shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks. It was his second straight outing in which he threw six shutout innings.

AA: Altoona (55-64) vs Portland (57-63) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Nick Kingham (3-3, 3.02)
Yesterday’s Result: Portland 5, Altoona 2

Nick Kingham will make his ninth start for Altoona. He has also pitched twice in relief, both times starting the completion of suspended games. Prior to joining Altoona, he went 6-3, 3.09 in 13 starts for Bradenton. In his last start, Kingham went five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks. In 53.2 innings since joining AA, he has allowed just one home run. He has a total of 117 strikeouts in 123.2 innings this year.

High-A: Bradenton (46-70 overall, 20-28 2nd half) vs Palm Beach (56-61) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Pat Ludwig (0-2, 5.93)
Yesterday’s Result: Palm Beach 4, Bradenton 1 (game one) Bradenton 4, Palm Beach 0 (game two)

Pat Ludwig will get his seventh start of the season, sixth with Bradenton. He has pitched 27 times in relief this year, four with the Marauders and 23 times with West Virginia. As a starter in High-A, Ludwig is 0-2, 6.04 in 22.1 innings. His last three starts have been rough, allowing a total of 13 runs in 10.1 innings. On the season, he has thrown a total of 79.1 innings, allowing 79 hits, five homers and 24 walks. He has 63 strikeouts, a 1.46 GO/AO ratio and a .262 BAA.

Low-A: West Virginia (69-51 overall, 32-18 2nd half) vs Greensboro (55-62) 7:05pm
Probable starter: John Kuchno (7-5, 4.23)
Yesterday’s Result: Greensboro 5, West Virginia 1

John Kuchno will get his 20th start of the season. He has also pitched twice in relief. Kuchno has thrown a total of 106.1 innings, allowing 114 hits, six homers and 38 walks. He has 75 strikeouts, a 2.51 GO/AO ratio and a .278 BAA. In his last start, which came nine days ago, he went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. At home this season, he is 4-2, 5.30 in nine starts and two relief appearances.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (32-20) @ Batavia (26-23) 7:05pm
Probable Starter: Cody Dickson (2-0, 2.16)
Yesterday’s Result: Jamestown was off yesterday

Cody Dickson will make his tenth start of the season. He has thrown 33.1 innings, allowing 24 hits, one homer and 14 walks. He has 36 strikeouts, an 0.78 GO/AO ratio and a .205 BAA. In his last start, he went five innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits and two walks. Dickson has not allowed an earned run in any of his last four starts, a total of 19 innings. On July 27th, he threw five no-hit innings against Williamsport. It was his third outing in which he didn’t allow a hit.

Rookie:  GCL Pirates (22-24) vs GCL Phillies (22-23) 12:00pm
Probable Starter: Billy Roth (0-1, 2.25)
Yesterday’s Result: Blue Jays 6, Pirates 1

Billy Roth will make his fourth start of the season. He pitched two no-hit innings in his debut, allowing two walks. In his second outing, he allowed one run on three hits, no walks and four strikeouts in three innings. Roth went three innings in his last start, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.

John Dreker

John was born in Kearny, NJ, hometown of the 2B for the Pirates 1909 World Championship team, Dots Miller. In fact they have some of the same relatives in common, so it was only natural for him to become a lifelong Pirates fan.
