Minor League Schedule: West Virginia Could Clinch Playoff Spot Tonight

A busy day on the schedule as both Bradenton and Jamestown will complete an earlier suspended game before they start their regularly scheduled game today. Jamestown has a huge series against the Pirates NYPL affiliate from last year, State College. The GCL season ends today and the Pirates affiliate will go on to the playoffs which begin on Saturday. The DSL Pirates2 saw their season end yesterday. A recap of the game can be found below. Probable starter: Andy Oliver (5-4, 4.20)
Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 1, Toledo 0 in 10 innings

Andy Oliver will make his 23rd start of the season and third since returning to the starting role. He has pitched five times in relief. On the year, he has thrown a total of 115.2 innings, allowing 94 hits, five homers and a league leading 107 walks. He has 123 strikeouts, a 1.24 GO/AO ratio and a .225 BAA. In his last start, he went three innings, giving up four runs on five hits and three walks. The lefty Oliver has an odd split, holding righties to a .207 average, while left-handed batters are hitting .292 against him.

Casey Sadler will get his 24th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 130.1 innings, allowing 116 hits, 11 homers and 42 walks. He has 67 strikeouts, a 1.74 GO/AO ratio and a .242 BAA. In his last start, he went 6.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits and four walks. On the road this season, he is 8-1, 2.61 in 12 starts, with a .206 BAA. In his only loss on the road, he gave up just two earned runs over seven innings.

Kyle Haynes will make his eighth start of the season. He has also pitched 33 times in relief. As a starter, he is 0-3, 1.31 in 34.1 innings, with 36 strikeouts and a .159 BAA. In his last start, Haynes went five innings, allowing three runs(all unearned) on three hits and five walks. His first start was on July 15th against Asheville. He went three innings, giving up one unearned run and striking out seven batters. He has a 1.24 ERA at home this season in 36.1 innings.

No starter has been named yet for today’s regularly scheduled game. Jamestown and State College are separated by one game in their division for first place. They will play each three times, then after a brief two game series, they will play three more times in Jamestown to end the season.

Jonathan Sandfort will make his tenth start today. He has also pitched once in relief. Sandfort has thrown a total of 36.1 innings, allowing 39 hits, three homers and 14 walks. He has 35 strikeouts, a 1.69 GO/AO ratio and a .281 BAA. In his last start, he went 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk. He faced the Phillies on July 12th, giving up four runs over four innings.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
