The Pittsburgh Pirates have called up Felix Pie and have added him to tonight’s lineup, batting leadoff and playing left-field. Ryan Reid is expected to be optioned to make room for Pie on the 25-man roster. No word on the 40-man roster move, which needs to be made since Pie isn’t currently on the 40-man. More to come as information becomes available.

UPDATE 3:50 PM: Pie doesn’t have the best numbers with Indianapolis this year. He’s hitting for a .250/.325/.390 line in 354 at-bats. He does have 38 stolen bases in 47 attempts, and is on a hot streak recently with a .344/.364/.469 line in 32 at-bats over his last ten games. He’s replacing Starling Marte in the lineup. Alex Presley and Andrew Lambo aren’t eligible to be recalled yet, since they were both optioned within ten days. That indicates that Marte won’t go on the DL, otherwise either one could be recalled.

UPDATE 4:27 PM: James Santelli, who is in San Diego, reports that Jose Tabata has left knee tendinitis.

With Tabata and Marte down for tonight, that explains the need for Pie.

UPDATE 4:32 PM: Pie has been officially called up. As expected, Reid has been optioned. Wandy Rodriguez has been transferred to the 60-day DL to make room for Pie on the 40-man roster. The move to the 60-day DL is only to create a roster spot. Rodriguez can return whenever he is healthy since he has spent longer than 60 days on the disabled list.
