Minor League Schedule: Taillon’s Last Regular Season Start, McDonald Joins Bradenton

To prospect Jameson Taillon will get his last regular season start tonight for Indianapolis. West Virginia had their game suspended by rain in the fourth inning last night. They will complete that game today prior to the start of the regularly scheduled game. Jamestown had an important win last night. They are the NYPL leader in the Wildcard race, with a one game lead over Lowell and four days left in their season. Probable starter: Jameson Taillon (1-2, 3.77)
Yesterday’s Result: Louisville 8, Indianapolis 4

Jameson Taillon will make his sixth start for Indianapolis tonight. He has pitched 31 innings, giving up 27 hits, one homer and 15 walks. Taillon has 31 strikeouts, an 0.63 GO/AO ratio and a .231 BAA. In his last start, he allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks in seven innings. He faced Louisville in his first game with Indianapolis and allowed three runs over five innings. With Altoona this year, he was 4-7, 3.67 in 110.1 innings, with 106 strikeouts.

AA: Altoona (62-78) vs Akron (67-71) 6:00pm
Probable starter: Nate Baker (3-4, 6.30)
Yesterday’s Result: Akron 9, Altoona 0

Nate Baker will get his seventh start of the season. He has also pitched 31 times in relief. As a starter, he is 1-3, 5.67 in 33.1 innings. In his last start, Baker went six innings, allowing six runs, though just two were earned. He started against Akron on August 3rd, going 6.1 innings, with three earned runs on six hits and a walk.

High-A: Bradenton (57-76 overall, 31-34 2nd half) @ Ft Myers (78-56) 12:05pm

James McDonald will get his fourth start during his current rehab stint. He has already made nine rehab starts this season and six starts for the Pirates earlier in the year. Since returning, he pitched three times for the GCL Pirates, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk in 5.2 innings. McDonald has thrown a total of 60.2 innings this year.

Low-A: West Virginia (79-58 overall, 42-25 2nd half) @ Lexington (68-67) 1:35pm
Probable starter: Clario Perez (0-2, 4.60)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia was suspended by rain

Clario Perez will make his first start of the season today. He has pitched twenty times in relief, throwing a total of 31.1 innings, with 27 strikeouts and a .220 BAA. He has not allowed a home run this season.

Buddy Borden will make his third pro start tonight. He has also pitched three times in relief since signing as the Pirates seventh round draft pick this year. In his last start, he threw four shutout innings, allowing just one hit. In his other start, he threw three shutout innings, also giving up just one hit.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
