Top prospects Austin Meadows and Stetson Allie have been out of action in minor league camp, both dealing with injuries. With the regular season about two weeks away, here is an update on each player and their eventual return to the game.
**Austin Meadows still hasn’t returned to game action after being out with a hamstring injury. The outfielder is expected to miss the first few weeks of the regular season, with the Pirates focusing on keeping him out of the cold weather in West Virginia and risking further injury to the hamstring.
Meadows is currently doing hitting and running drills with the team in the mornings, but hasn’t returned to action. He doesn’t know when he will get in a game, and hasn’t played in a game yet this Spring, since his injury happened early in camp.
“It’s going to be cold up in West Virginia,” Meadows said. “The first couple of weeks, I don’t want to risk getting hurt again. If you get hurt the second time, it’s going to be a lot longer. Just trying to take this slow and patient, and recover as much as I can, one hundred percent.”
Meadows figures he will be in Bradenton for a few weeks at the start of the season, getting some at-bats and getting ready for the season before making the jump to West Virginia.
**Stetson Allie has been out for a few weeks with an oblique injury. He was full go today, and hopes to get into a game on Sunday. Allie has been swinging the bat for about a week, starting off the tee first, then moving to live batting practice today. He doesn’t know if he will miss any time to start the season, but he said he hasn’t been out long and doesn’t expect to miss any time.Pirates Prospects is FREE today in honor of the Wild Card game.
