Minor League Schedule: Jeff Locke Makes Second Indianapolis Start

Indianapolis was the only team on the schedule yesterday. All four Pirates affiliates are at home today. No starter has been named yet for Bradenton. Check out the Prospect Watch from last night. AAA: Indianapolis (11-5) vs Louisville (9-7) 7:05pm 
Probable starter: Jeff Locke (0-1, 9.00)
Yesterday’s Result:  Louisville 5, Indianapolis 1

Jeff Locke will make his second start for Indianapolis tonight. In his first outing, he went five innings, allowing five runs on five hits, two homers, two walks and he struck out four batters. Locke injured an oblique during Spring Training and missed the start of the season. He made one rehab start for Bradenton before being sent to Indianapolis. In that start, he went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out ten batters.

AA: Altoona (5-9) vs Harrisburg (4-10) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Zack Dodson (0-1, 2.53)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona was off

Zack Dodson will make his third start of the season tonight. He has also pitched once in relief. In his last start, which was against Harrisburg, Dodson went 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up six hits and three walks, while striking out five batters. He went four innings in his previous outing, allowing five runs(three earned) on seven hits and two walks. In his lone relief outing, he pitched one scoreless inning.

High-A: Bradenton (11-5) vs Charlotte (5-11) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Pat Ludwig (1-0, 0.75)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton was off

Pat Ludwig will make his second start of the season tonight. He has also pitched twice in relief. Ludwig went five scoreless innings in his only start, allowing three hits and one walk, while striking out four batters. On the season, he has pitched a total of 12 innings, allowing one run on eight hits and four walks, with 12 strikeouts. The only run came on a solo homer.

Low-A: West Virginia (7-8) vs Kannapolis (6-9) 7:05pm  
Probable starterShane Carle (0-0, 3.09)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia was off

Shane Carle is the scheduled starter for West Virginia tonight. He has made three starts, pitching a total of 11.2 innings, with 14 hits, two homers and one walk. He has 12 strikeouts, a 2.43 GO/AO ratio and a .280 BAA. In his last start, Carle gave up one run on four hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. Dovydas Neverauskas was the next pitcher in line to pitch before West Virginia was rained out two days in a row, so he may see action tonight as well.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
