Chris Dickerson visits the DL in Indianapolis

Published:

Chris Dickerson left the game in Indianapolis after just one at bat May 28 with a lower leg injury.

Though it was initially reported as a hamstring injury, which has also been hampering the left-handed leadoff hitter for the past few weeks, Dickerson was placed on the disabled list Friday with a right heel contusion.

Dickerson has been arguably the second best hitter in the International League this season to teammate Gregory Polanco. He has hit .329 with 18 extra base hits this season. He has also stolen nine bases and played solid defense, earning him some looks for a possible addition to the 40-man roster and call up to Pittsburgh.

Dickerson has reached base in 36 of his 38 starts this season, including Wednesday. He also had a 16-game hit streak broken on May 19.

With the injury, Dickerson joins Andrew Lambo on the Indianapolis DL, leaving quite a void in the lineup around Polanco.

The injury appeared to possibly more than just a contusion, as Dickerson was in a walking boot and on crutches on Thursday – a day after the ailment occurred. Though no timetable was set for his return, any updates will be posted.
