Minor League Schedule: Brandon Cumpton Returns to Indianapolis Rotation

For Indianapolis today, Brandon Cumpton makes his return to the minors after making two starts for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Three of the four games today are early morning starts. Yesterday’s Result Scranton/WB 2, Indianapolis 1

Brandon Cumpton will make his fourth start for Indianapolis tonight. He has also made two starts for the Pirates in which he posted a 4.26 ERA over 12.2 innings. In his last start for Indianapolis, Cumpton threw seven shutout innings. He also threw six shutout innings in his season debut. Just like today’s start, both of those starts were on the road. In 19 innings, he has allowed three walks and one homer. Cumpton has 11 strikeouts, a .246 BAA and a 1.41 GO/AO ratio.

AA: Altoona (12-18) vs Bowie (16-15) 10:30am
Probable starter: Joely Rodriguez (1-3, 5.92)
Yesterday’s Result: Bowie 11, Altoona 7

Joely Rodriguez will make his sixth start of the season today. He has pitched 24.1 innings, allowing 32 hits, two homers and six walks. He has strong 1.73 GO/AO ratio, but has only struck out eight batters and hitters are batting .320 against him, including a .353 mark from right-handed batters. In his last start, Rodriguez gave up five runs on eight hits and no walks in five innings.

High-A: Bradenton (16-16) vs Charlotte (16-16) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Pat Ludwig (2-0, 1.67)
Yesterday’s Result: Ft Myers 4, Bradenton 0

Pat Ludwig will make his third start of the season tonight. He has also pitched five times in relief. In his two starts, he pitched 11 total innings without allowing an earned run. On the year, Ludwig has pitched 27 innings, giving up 21 hits, one homer and seven walks. He has 24 strikeouts, a 1.71 GO/AO ratio and a .206 BAA. Ludwig started against Charlotte on 4/21, going six innings, with four hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

Low-A: West Virginia (11-20) vs Savannah (19-9) 10:30am
Probable starter: Justin Topa (1-1, 5.32)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia was off yesterday

West Virginia was off yesterday. Justin Topa will get the start today, his fourth of the season and his eighth appearance. The Power are in last place in their division, 12 games behind first place Hagerstown. They are 3-11 at home, 8-9 on the road and 4-6 in their last ten games. West Virginia and Savannah begin a three game series today. It will be the first and only time these  two teams meet this season. The Power do not make a trip to Savannah this year.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
