Minor League Schedule: Casey Sadler Returns to Indianapolis Rotation

In Indianapolis tonight, Casey Sadler returns from a successful stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sadler made his Major League debut last week and got in two scoreless appearances before returning to the minors earlier this week. Check out the Prospect Watch from last night. Casey Sadler will make his fifth start of the season tonight. He is returning from a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates in which he threw four shutout innings over two appearances. For Indianapolis, Sadler has thrown 27 innings, giving up 17 hits, one homer and six walks. He has 16 strikeouts, a 1.44 GO/AO ratio and a .185 BAA. All four of his starts qualified as a quality start.

AA: Altoona (13-19) @ Akron (21-12) 6:35pm
Probable starter:  Tyler Sample (2-1, 2.57)
Yesterday’s Result: Akron 9, Altoona 7

Tyler Sample will make his fifth start of the season tonight. He has also pitched once in relief. He was putting up great results until his last start, in which he gave up six runs in three innings to Akron. Sample also pitched against Akron in his first game of the year, giving up one unearned run over three innings. Going into his last game, he had a 1.00 ERA. On the year, Sample has pitched 21 innings, giving up 12 hits, no homers and 20 walks. He has 20 strikeouts, an 0.67 GO/AO ratio and a .176 BAA.

High-A: Bradenton (18-16) @ Charlotte (16-18) 6:30pm
Probable starter:  Jason Creasy (2-1, 2.59)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 8, Charlotte 2

Jason Creasy will make his eighth start of the season tonight, the first Pirates farmhand to reach that mark. He has pitched a total of 31.1 innings, giving up 26 hits, one homer and eight walks. He had 19 strikeouts, a 1.12 GO/AO ratio and a .226 BAA. In his last start, Creasy threw 5.2 scoreless innings. He has given up two runs or less in six of his starts. He is holding left-handed batters to a .200 average in 65 at-bats this year.

Low-A: West Virginia (11-22) vs Savannah (21-9) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Shane Carle (1-2, 4.40)
Yesterday’s Result: Savannah 5, West Virginia 3

Shane Carle will make his seventh start of the season tonight. He has thrown 28.2 innings, allowing 37 hits, three homers and three walks. Carle has 21 strikeouts, a 1.73 GO/AO ratio and a .319 BAA. In his last start, he gave up four runs over 6.2 innings. He also gave up four runs in his previous start. In each of his first four starts, Carle allowed two earned runs or less. He walked one batter or less in 19 of his 20 appearances as a pro.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
