Minor League Schedule: Doubleheader For Indianapolis, Joely Rodriguez Goes In Altoona

Indianapolis was rained out yesterday. They will make the game up as part of a doubleheader today. Casey Sadler has been named the starter for game two. Check out the Prospect Watch from last night. Probable starter: Jake Brigham (1-2, 3.38) and Casey Sadler (4-1, 2.15)
Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis was rained out

Jake Brigham will make his seventh start of the season tonight. He has also pitched once in relief. He has thrown 37.1 innings, giving up 30 hits, two homers and 13 walks. Brigham has 40 strikeouts, an 0.95 GO/AO ratio and a .211 BAA. In his last outing, he pitched three innings of relief, throwing shutout ball on one hit and two walks. Brigham has a 2.16 road ERA in four starts. Casey Sadler will start the other game today. He has made six starts for Indianapolis and pitched four scoreless innings in relief over two appearances with the Pirates. For Indianapolis, Sadler has thrown 37.2 innings, allowing 30 hits, one homer and nine walks. He has 28 strikeouts, a 1.82 GO/AO ratio and a .222 BAA. In his last start, he gave up one hit over six innings, allowing one unearned run, while walking three and striking out seven batters.

Joely Rodriguez will make his eighth start of the season tonight. He has thrown 34.1 innings, allowing 43 hits, two homers and ten walks. He has 17 strikeouts, a 1.76 GO/AO ratio and a .309 BAA. In his last start, Rodriguez went five innings, allowing four runs(two earned) on five hits and two walks. He struck out a season-high seven batters. He has a 3.52 ERA at home and a 6.16 ERA on the road.

Probable starter: Pat Ludwig (2-0, 2.70)
Yesterday’s Result: Dunedin 5, Bradenton 4

Pat Ludwig will make his fourth start. He has also pitched seven times in relief. As a starter, he has a 2.76 ERA in 16.1 innings. Ludwig has pitched a total of 36.2 innings, allowing 35 hits, two homers and 11 walks. He has 31 strikeouts, a 1.66 GO/AO ratio and a .245 BAA. He has been tough on left-handed batters, holding them to a .205 average. Ludwig pitched 1.1 innings against Dunedin on Friday and allowed one run on three hits and two walks.

Low-A: West Virginia (14-28) vs Delmarva (22-20) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Shane Carle (1-3, 3.63)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 7, Delmarva 0

Shane Carle will make his ninth start of the season. He has pitched 39.2 innings, allowing 50 hits, three homers and just three walks. He hasn’t allowed more than one walk in any start and hasn’t given up a home run in his last four outings. Carle has 25 strikeouts, a 1.64 GO/AO ratio and a .314 BAA, which includes .313 from left-handed batters and .316 from righties. After striking out six batters or more in three straight starts, Carle has struck out just six batters total in his last four starts.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
