Minor League Schedule: Nick Kingham and Tyler Glasnow Pitch Tonight

With Jameson Taillon out for the season, the two best pitching prospects in the Pittsburgh Pirates system this year are Nick Kingham and Tyler Glasnow. Kingham gets the start for Altoona against Akron, while Glasnow makes his first home start for Bradenton. Check out the Prospect Watch from last night. Adam Wilk will make his seventh start of the season tonight. He has thrown 34.2 innings, allowing 35 hits, four homers and 11 walks. He has 26 strikeouts, an 0.83 GO/AO ratio and a .261 BAA. In his last start, Wilk had his worst outing, giving up seven runs on 11 hits and two walks. In each of his five prior starts, he allowed three runs or less. Wilk is holding lefty batters to a .120 average.

Nick Kingham will make his seventh start of the season tonight. He has thrown 32 innings, allowing 32 hits, no homers and 14 walks. He has 25 strikeouts, an 0.86 GO/AO ratio and a .262 BAA. In his last start, which was against Akron, Kingham went six innings, giving up four runs(two earned) on six hits and two walks. Right-handed batters are hitting .203 against him, while lefties are batting .340 with 11 walks.

Tyler Glasnow will make his fourth start of the season tonight. In his first three starts combined, he allowed a total of five hits, but some control issues have led to 11 walks. In 12 innings, he has 12 strikeouts, a 1.18 GO/AO ratio and a .125 BAA. This will be his first start at home this year. Glasnow threw five shutout innings in his season debut.

Low-A: West Virginia (11-22) @ Greenville (17-14) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Buddy Borden (0-2, 2.10)
Yesterday’s Result: Savannah 5, West Virginia 1

Buddy Borden will get his seventh start of the season tonight. He has thrown 25.2 innings, allowing 19 hits, one homer and nine walks. Borden has 24 strikeouts, an 0.80 GO/AO ratio and a .196 BAA. In his last start, he went six innings, giving up three runs on six hits. In his four previous starts combined, Borden did not allow a single earned run. He has not walked a batter in his last two starts. He has reached his season high of five strikeouts on three different occasions.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
