Prospect Highlights: Willy Garcia’s Big Day, Home Run From Chris Dickerson

Published:

Willy Garcia had a big game during Altoona’s 7-3 win on Thursday morning. He hit two homers, had a double and drove in four runs. All three extra-base hits are shown in the video below. He has 33 hits on the season and 20 have gone for extra bases, with nine doubles, four triples and seven homers

For Indianapolis yesterday, Chris Dickerson homered, doubled and drove in two runs. He had a pretty good April, posting an .802 OPS, but May has been much better. Dickerson has a .414 average this month, giving him a .351/.412/.542 slash line this season through 131 at-bats. While Gregory Polanco is obviously getting all the attention in Indianapolis, his center field partner is quietly putting together a season that has him second in the International League in average, third in OBP and fifth in slugging.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
