Prospect Highlights: Willy Garcia’s Big Day, Home Run From Chris Dickerson

Willy Garcia had a big game during Altoona’s 7-3 win on Thursday morning. He hit two homers, had a double and drove in four runs. All three extra-base hits are shown in the video below. He has 33 hits on the season and 20 have gone for extra bases, with nine doubles, four triples and seven homers

For Indianapolis yesterday, Chris Dickerson homered, doubled and drove in two runs. He had a pretty good April, posting an .802 OPS, but May has been much better. Dickerson has a .414 average this month, giving him a .351/.412/.542 slash line this season through 131 at-bats. While Gregory Polanco is obviously getting all the attention in Indianapolis, his center field partner is quietly putting together a season that has him second in the International League in average, third in OBP and fifth in slugging.

John was born in Kearny, NJ, hometown of the 2B for the Pirates 1909 World Championship team, Dots Miller. In fact they have some of the same relatives in common, so it was only natural for him to become a lifelong Pirates fan. Before joining Pirates Prospects in July 2010, John had written numerous articles on the history of baseball while also releasing his own book and co-authoring another on the history of the game. He writes a weekly article on Pirates history for the site, has already interviewed many of the current minor leaguers with many more on the way and follows the foreign minor league teams very closely for the site. John also provides in person game reports of the West Virginia Power and Altoona Curve.

Prospect Highlights: Homers From Gregory Polanco and Mel Rojas Jr.

If I were NH, I would be looking to trade Snider for a minor league prospect immediately. I would promote Dickerson and plug him in to right field the next 3 weeks to see what he can do. Snider has been given way too many chances. He is not a major league player.

Agreed smurph. I would deal Snider for cash even because he is gonna get dfa’d soon. Dickerson has a 3.2 WAR in 708 mlb PAs which exceeds Tabata…I would love to see them find a way to get rid of Tabata also but I think they are stuck. They may have to spend 11 mil for a 4th or 5th OF through 2016. It’s not a disaster but it’s not ideal either. I will give Jose the benefit of the doubt and hope he finishes with numbers like last year which you can live with. Still, Dickerson and J-Hay can do what Snider and Tabata do for about 3 mil less this year. I know he is a journeyman but Dickerson has a decent track record and has been on fire since March in ST. He might be the INT League MVP right now if it wasn’t for Polanco.
