Prospect Highlights: Gregory Polanco Shows Off Defense and Speed

Published:

Indianapolis put up a game highlight video that shows off a couple of Gregory Polanco’s strengths, fielding and running. He makes a nice shoestring catch early in the video, then steals third base a couple highlights later. The video starts with a three-run bomb from Matt Hague, who has suddenly become a power threat with his seven homers.

A couple highlights from Altoona’s games over the weekend that went up too late for yesterday’s Prospect Highlights. The first one is a great video because you get to see an entire at-bat against Adrian Sampson that ends in a strikeout. He threw eight shutout innings on Friday and this strikeout was a big one, keeping the game scoreless in the third and it came right after a two out triple.

Video #2 is a single from Alen Hanson from Friday. When a game ends 1-0 and your team has the zero, this is the type of highlights you get. Still good to see a hit from Hanson, who drove in the Curve’s only run on Sunday

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
