Minor League Schedule: John Kuchno Looks to Repeat Success Against Tampa

Six games on the schedule today. Indianapolis is on their All-Star break, while West Virginia has an off day. Indianapolis is on their All-Star break until Thursday. When they resume play, they will take on Columbus, who they are tied with for first place.

AA: Altoona (37-60) @ Harrisburg (38-57) 12:00pm
Probable starter: Thomas Harlan (0-0, 1.80)
Yesterday’s Result: Harrisburg 9, Altoona 5

Thomas Harlan will make his second start for Altoona today. In his first game with the Curve, he went five innings, giving up two runs(one earned) on seven hits and one walk. With Bradenton, Harlan had a 2.49 ERA in 21 relief appearances. In 50.2 innings, he allowed 52 hits, one homer and nine walks. He had 41 strikeouts, a 1.26 GO/AO ratio and a .255 BAA.

High-A: Bradenton (47-42, 12-8 2nd half) vs Tampa (45-47) 5:00pm
Probable starter: John Kuchno (4-8, 3.98)

John Kuchno will make his 19th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 95 innings, giving up 94 hits, three homers and 40 walks. He has 47 strikeouts, a 2.36 GO/AO ratio and a .264 BAA. In his last start, Kuchno gave up three runs(two earned) over 6.2 innings. He faced Tampa on 5/30 at home and threw seven shutout innings. He has a 3.43 home ERA and 4.42 on the road.

West Virginia is off today. The Power are in sixth place in their division, four games back in the race for the second half title.

Montana DuRapau will make his fourth start of the season. He has also pitched three times in relief. DuRapau has thrown 18 innings, giving up 18 hits, one homer and two walks. He has 15 strikeouts, a 1.05 GO/AO ratio and a .257 BAA. In his last start, he gave up one unearned run on five hits and a walk in 3.2 innings.

RK: Bristol (7-15) vs Kingsport (10-14) 7:00pm
Probable Starter: Billy Roth (0-4, 6.06)

Billy Roth will make his fifth start of the season. He has thrown 16.1 innings, allowing 18 hits, three homers and nine walks. He has 15 strikeouts, a 2.09 GO/AO ratio and a .273 BAA. John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
