Minor League Schedule: Nick Kingham Looks to Rebound From Tough Outing

Seven teams on the schedule today, with a scheduled off-day for West Virginia. Altoona has an early afternoon start time. Nick Kingham will get his 21st start of the season tonight, ninth for Indianapolis. He has identical 3.04 ERA’s with Indianapolis and Altoona this year. Kingham has thrown a total of 121.1 innings, allowing 108 hits, four homers and 36 walks. He has 91 strikeouts, a 1.07 GO/AO ratio and a .237 BAA. Kingham allowed six walks in his first seven AAA outing, then issued five free passes in his last game. He also gave up seven earned runs after allowing ten earned runs in his first seven outings combined.

Thomas Harlan will make his fifth start for Altoona tonight. Prior to being promoted, Harlan made 21 relief appearances for Bradenton. In his last start, he went 6.1 innings, giving up one unearned run on five hits and a walk. Prior to that, Harlan went five innings in each of his first three starts. On the year, he has allowed just two homers and has a 14/49 BB/SO ratio in 72 innings.

Chad Kuhl will make his 22nd start of the season tonight. He has thrown 115.1 innings, surrendering 104 hits, seven homers and 26 walks. He has 80 strikeouts, a 1.64 GO/AO ratio and a .245 BAA. In his last start, he went five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks. Kuhl has given up 17 walks over his last ten starts after giving up just nine in his first 11 games.

Austin Coley is now listed as the starter for tonight. He made just two starts after being drafted in the eighth round this year, before being sidelined with a shoulder strain. Both starts were against Williamsport, with the last one coming on June 22nd, when he gave up one run over three innings.

Billy Roth will make his eighth start of the season. He has thrown 26 innings, allowing 24 hits, four homers and 19 walks. He has 23 strikeouts, a 1.60 GO/AO ratio and a .247 BAA. John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
