Matt Hague Designated For Assignment to Create Room for John Axford

The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated Matt Hague for assignment, creating room on the 40-man roster for today’s waiver claim of John Axford. Previously it was assumed that Stolmy Pimentel would be DFAd, as he was seen leaving Clint Hurdle’s office after the game.

The Pirates will need to create a 25-man spot when Axford reports to the team. Rob Biertempfel says that Pimentel has been bothered by lower body soreness, and should go to the DL tomorrow.

That will solve the 25-man spot, and explains why Pimentel was leaving Hurdle’s office after the game.

Stolmy Pimentel Placed on the 15-Day DL

Yay, Stolmy has lower body soreness! I mean, awww, Stolmy has lower body soreness. Just can’t catch a break.

Hurdle probably punched him in the thigh to give him a bruise. “DL! DL!”

      • Monsoon Harvard

Yeah or stomped on his foot, lol

I hope someone picks up Hague and he shoves it up someones nose in Pittsburgh.

    • Jared

Wouldn’t be the first time. Not that I would expect that result, but I have no idea why he was DFA’d instead of Morel or McGuiness.

  • S Brooks

And for anyone who cares, Chris Dickerson has come back to Earth with a thud. .233/.317/.356 with a .673 OPs as and a WAR of 0.0. Can’t believe we let him go “for nothing.”

  • John Lease

Axford? HE SUCKS! Why on earth would you even WANT that turd? I only liked him on other teams, because you knew that was one guy the Pirates could destroy.

    • pilbobuggins

One reason that can’t be overlooked is solid playoff experience, I just can’t overstate the need for the calming influence of experience on young guys with limited to no pennant chase and playoff experience.

  • pilbobuggins

Hague being cut probably has more to do with his age (27 or 28?) Than it does with his production. Gotta make room for the younger guys at the old prospect mill after all.

  • st1300b

Don’t like this move really as I have thought Hague showed enough this year to be a valuable bench piece, much more so than Mcguiness or darker or a few others. Wish you success hit man. #haugeisfree
