Minor League Schedule: Cody Dickson Has Turned His Season Around

All eight teams on the schedule today. Three teams were rained out last night. Jamestown and West Virginia will play a doubleheader today, while Bristol will make up the game on August 24th. Probable starter: TBD
Yesterday’s Result:  Indianapolis 3, Toledo 1

No starter has been named yet for today’s game. It could possibly be the AAA debut for Adrian Sampson, who was promoted yesterday.

AA: Altoona (53-70) vs Trenton (59-64) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Jhonathan Ramos (4-5, 4.26)
Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 3, Trenton 2

Jhonathan Ramos will make his sixth start of the season tonight. He has pitched 30 times in relief. Ramos has thrown 63.1 innings this year, allowing 68 hits, 11 homers and 17 walks. He has 34 strikeouts, a 1.34 WHIP, an 0.95 GO/AO ratio and a .272 BAA. Ramos faced Trenton in his last start, throwing six shutout  innings with just one hit and no walks allowed.

High-A: Bradenton (67-53, 32-19 2nd half) @ Jupiter (43-75) 6:35pm
Probable starter: Jason Creasy (6-8, 3.83)
Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 6, Jupiter 1

Jason Creasy will make his 25th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 124.2 innings this year, surpassing last year’s total by 16.1 innings already. Creasy has allowed 145 hits, eight homers and 15 walks. He has 78 strikeouts, a 1.04 GO/AO ratio, a 1.28 WHIP and he has a .294 BAA. In his last start, Creasy gave up a season-high 11 hits. It topped the ten he allowed in his previous outing. Right-handed batters are hitting .313 against him this year.

Low-A: West Virginia (44-75, 24-27 2nd half) vs Augusta (57-62) 5:05pm DH
Probable starter: Felipe Gonzalez (2-3, 2.65) and Cody Dickson (5-9, 4.20)
Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia was rained out

Cody Dickson gets his 24th start tonight. He has pitched much better since the All-Star break, going into the break with a 5.58 ERA through 13 starts, and he has posted a 2.61 ERA in ten starts since then. He had a .301 BAA prior to the break and .263 since. Dickson has pitched better on the road this season, with a 3.47 ERA in 14 starts. His home ERA is 5.59 in nine games. He faced Augusta once this year, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks in five innings back on May 16th. Felipe Gonzalez will make his seventh start of the season. He has also pitched 25 times in relief. In his last start, Gonzalez went five innings, giving up four runs(three earned) on seven hits and three walks. He has thrown 85 innings this year, giving up 73 hits, eight homers and 23 walks. He has 79 strikeouts, a 1.13 WHIP, an 0.66 GO/AO ratio and a .230 BAA.

Short-Season A: Jamestown (25-31) vs Auburn (26-30) 6:05pm DH
Probable Starter: Frank Duncan (2-2, 3.45) and Montana DuRapau (1-2, 2.85)
Yesterday’s Result: Jamestown was rained out

Frank Duncan will get his 11th start of the season tonight. He has thrown 44.1 innings, allowing 46 hits, two homers and nine walks. He has 29 strikeouts, a 1.24 WHIP, an 0.94 GO/AO ratio and a .272 BAA. In his last start, Duncan threw five shutout innings, striking out a career-high six batters. He has a 3.51 ERA on the road and 3.38 at home. Montana DuRapau will start the second game. He has started eight times and made four relief appearances. He has thrown a total of 41 innings and has a 6/33 BB/SO ratio, along with a 1.15 WHIP,  1.07 GO/AO ratio and a .258 BAA.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
