Pirates Sign Josh Wall to Minor League Deal With Spring Training Invite

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Josh Wall, who has been invited to Spring Training. They also announced the Wilkin Castillo deal we heard earlier in the week and they also extended him an invite to Spring Training.

Wall was a waiver pickup last year from the Angels in late May and he cleared waivers in August, getting dropped from the 40-man roster, but remaining in the organization. The 28-year-old had a 2.91 ERA in 28 relief appearances for Indianapolis, striking out 35 batters in 34 innings. He has pitched 15 games in the Majors spread out over three different seasons and has a 15.15 ERA in 13.2 innings.

John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
