Minor Moves: Barrett Barnes Assigned to Extended Spring Training, Brad Lincoln to Indianapolis

Published:

Besides Jaff Decker getting activated and assigned to Indianapolis today, there have been other moves around the minors in the last two days. To make room on the Indianapolis roster, the Pirates have assigned pitcher Adam Miller to the West Virginia Black Bears roster.

Yesterday, Brad Lincoln was assigned to Indianapolis and made his season debut, throwing a scoreless inning in relief. Utility player Andy Vasquez was moved to Altoona to make room for Lincoln.

Junior Sosa has been moved from Altoona to Bradenton and he replaced outfielder Barrett Barnes on the roster. Barnes left Wednesday night’s game early and didn’t play the last two days. He wasn’t put on the disabled list, he was assigned to Extended Spring Training, but there could be an injury. The move could be due to roster spaces because Bradenton already has five players on the disabled list. Barnes had four hits in his last game and is hitting .450, so the timing would be bad for another injury. We are working to confirm the details.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
