Tyler Eppler to Make Season Debut on Sunday

Published:

Tyler Eppler will make his regular season debut with the Bradenton Marauders on Sunday afternoon. The sixth round draft pick from 2014 is ranked #28 in our top 30 prospect lists. He has been building up his pitch count in Extended Spring Training the last few weeks after returning from elbow soreness, which shut him down in Spring Training. He had a minor setback in April, which further delayed his return. Eppler was throwing low-90’s during one of his final EST outings.

After signing with the Pirates last year, Eppler reported to Jamestown, where he made 14 starts and had a 2.49 ERA in 68.2 innings. He was originally scheduled to open the season in the Bradenton rotation and the plan to have him skip Low-A ball hasn’t changed with the missed time. He will likely be on a 5IP/75 pitch limit on Sunday.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
