Justin Sellers Outrighted to Indianapolis

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates outrighted Justin Sellers off the 40-man roster yesterday. Sellers was on the 60-day disabled list all season, but was nearing the end of his minor league rehab. He had options remaining, and there was a spot on the 40-man roster after the team designated Brent Morel for assignment yesterday. However, the Pirates were able to get Sellers through waivers, giving them the easy choice to outright him off the 40-man roster, keeping a spot open.

That spot might be valuable in the upcoming week, with the Pirates expected to make more trades before the deadline. Sellers could be a depth option for the Pirates down the stretch, although when Josh Harrison and Jordy Mercer return, it might be difficult for him or any other depth guys to get much playing time on the active roster.
