The Cleveland Indians have claimed right-handed pitcher Deolis Guerra off waivers, according to Jordan Bastian.

Guerra was a good depth option for the Pirates, but wasn’t consistent enough to stick around for the long-term, especially with the recent additions of Joe Blanton and Joakim Soria. He’s a guy who mostly relies on his off-speed stuff for success, which really led to him emerging as a MLB option, as Ryan Palencer wrote about earlier this year. It would have been nice if the Pirates would have been able to keep him, as that would have allowed them to bring him up in September when rosters expanded. However, they will have other options from Triple-A, including Blake Wood, who has been fantastic as the closer for Indianapolis.
On a related note, no word yet on whether Vance Worley has cleared waivers, or what his future will be. The Pirates had ten days to make a decision on him.
