Gerrit Cole Throws First Bullpen After Dealing With Right Rib Inflammation

Published:

BRADENTON, Fl. – Gerrit Cole threw off the mound today for the first time this Spring, throwing a 20 pitch bullpen session. Cole mostly threw fastballs, but mixed in a few changeups. Here is video of some of his outing from today.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Cole was dealing with some right rib inflammation, and was behind the other pitchers on a modified schedule. Cole said he was free of the discomfort, and doesn’t expect that to be an issue going forward.

After today’s outing, Cole said that the focus going forward would be building up his arm strength and fine-tuning his pitches. He said the next two bullpens would be important for both of those goals.

Clint Hurdle didn’t have much to say after practice, simply saying that it was good to see Cole on the mound.
