Pirates Prospects Adds Two New Minor League Writers

Published:

I’m pleased to announce that Pirates Prospects has added two new minor league writers in recent weeks, adding Brian Peloza in Indianapolis and Abigail Miskowiec in West Virginia. I’m actually late with this announcement, since you’ve already seen their work on the site, with Brian’s live game story of Tyler Glasnow’s start in last night’s Prospect Watch, and Abigail’s featured article on JT Brubaker this morning.

Brian will join our Indianapolis coverage, giving us a lot of live looks at the team this year. Yesterday showed how important that live coverage is for the site. While every other outlet looked at the stat line for Glasnow and chalked it up to another good start and a sign that he was ready, Brian and I talked with Glasnow and Indians Manager Dean Treanor after the game, who both immediately said that the right-hander didn’t have his best stuff. Brian will help us have coverage of almost every Indianapolis home game, so that we can give you an accurate view of what is going on in Triple-A.

Prior to joining the team, Brian worked as a freelancer for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, providing them with features out of Indianapolis over the last few years, with his final feature for their outlet coming a week ago. He has plenty of experience covering sports at the professional level, with coverage of the Indianapolis Colts and other sporting events in the Indianapolis area.

Abigail actually joined us in April, and also comes with a good media background. She has previously served as an editor at Bleacher Report and Sports of New York. She also writes and researches for the Society of American Baseball Research, and is currently in the process of drafting several chapters of a book covering the history of baseball’s winter meetings.

We’ve already seen two featured articles from Abigail, with her Brubaker article going up today, and her article on 2015 third round pick Casey Hughston going up last week. While Indianapolis obviously gets more attention here, due to the immediate help they can provide the Pirates, the West Virginia coverage is very important to the site. As many of you long-time readers and prospect followers know, West Virginia has been the spot for breakout players every year in this system. They’ve got two high upside prospects at the level this year in Mitch Keller and Ke’Bryan Hayes, who could be two of the biggest prospects to cover in the system in the second half, after the top Indianapolis guys graduate.

With these two additions, I feel our minor league coverage is in the best place it has ever been. We now have seven people providing live coverage of the full season minor league teams, and every team will receive at least two different sets of eyes on them this year. As you can tell by the name of the site, we’re really focused on covering the minor league system. Your subscription dollars have made all of this coverage possible, with the ability to add new writers and allowing me to travel to see every team in the system during the year.

Now that the minor league coverage is locked down, my next goal will be increasing the coverage of the Major League team in the same way, and that boost in coverage will be coming soon.

If you aren’t a subscriber, you’re really missing out on the best coverage of the Pirates’ minor league system, with information that you won’t find anywhere else. You can try us out for a month for less than the price of a cup of coffee, which at this point would also include our draft coverage. We also have an Annual plan, or you could go the Francisco Cervelli route and take a three-year extension with our Top Prospect Plan, which also comes with a free copy of the 2016 Prospect Guide. Head over to our subscription page for all of our plan options, and sign up so you can start reading articles from Brian, Abigail, and all of our other writers.
