Pirates Place Jung Ho Kang on the DL, Recall Josh Bell

Published:

PITTSBURGH — Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang is expected to go on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury, according to a team source.

Kang injured himself sliding awkwardly into second base against the Marlins in the seventh inning Friday night. He finished the game, but had his shoulder wrapped afterward and did not take batting practice on Saturday.

In the following half inning, he made a fielding and throwing error on the same play, which contributing to the Marlins tying the game.

The corresponding move has not been announced, but Josh Bell is not in the lineup for Triple-A Indianapolis in their game at Louisville. Jason Rogers also isn’t in the lineup, although Alen Hanson, Max Moroff, and Willy Garcia are currently listed as starters.

UPDATE 5:31 PM: The Pirates have made it official, saying that Kang is expected to go on the DL, and that Josh Bell will be recalled. The move isn’t official yet, but the press release said Bell is expected to be active for tonight’s game. Kang is expected to be out for two to four weeks.
