Connor Joe and Edgar Santana to Represent Pirates in AFL Fall-Stars Game

Published:

The Arizona Fall League announced the rosters for the 2017 Fall-Stars game and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be represented by Connor Joe and Edgar Santana.

Joe has been playing third base and left field in the AFL this season. He is hitting .192/.364/.308 through eight games, and he’s tied for the team lead with seven walks.

Santana has been one of the best pitchers in the league, with 8.2 shutout innings and a 0:15 BB/SO ratio to his credit. He also has a 2.33 GO/AO ratio.

The choice of Joe might seem like an odd one outside of his strong OBP. The AFL Fall-Stars game participants are rarely chosen based on stats, so it’s not unusual based on past history that Eric Wood didn’t get in with the third best OPS in the league, or Jin-De Jhang with his team leading .393 average. Santana and Joe were the two highest rated prospects going into the league for the Pirates, so that’s likely why they got the nod.

The game will take place this Saturday night at 8PM EST. MLB Network will broadcast the game and Tim Williams will provide live coverage. Our AFL live coverage begins tomorrow and runs until Saturday.
