Pirates Lose Brady Dragmire on Waivers to the Rangers

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that right-handed pitcher Brady Dragmire was lost on waivers to the Texas Rangers. Dragmire was acquired earlier this off-season from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations, which is essentially a glorified waiver claim. It appears the Pirates were trying to sneak him through waivers to keep him around as depth, but Texas prevented that from happening.

Dragmire is a hard throwing right-hander, sitting 93-96 MPH and touching 97 with a fastball that has sinking action. He also throws a slider and a mid-80s changeup, with the latter also have sinking action due to being thrown with a two-seam grip. He was the number 16 prospect in Toronto’s system heading into the 2016 season, and had a Seth Maness comp from Baseball America.

The 40-man roster now sits at 39.
