Jameson Taillon Set to Make Rehab Start for Altoona on Sunday

Published:

PITTSBURGH — Just under three weeks after learning that he had testicular cancer, Pirates right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon will return to the mound on Sunday in a rehab start for the Altoona Curve.

Taillon has already thrown two bullpen sessions of 25 and 35 pitches, respectively. After undergoing a surgical procedure on May 8, Taillon was already back performing light physical activity and playing catch by the following week. He said on Friday that he felt he should be able to make a pretty quick return to a regular throwing program after “shaking the rust off” with two bullpen sessions.

Taillon also said that he was glad to be able to get back on the mound and focus on baseball after dealing with a frightening medical issue.

The Curve — the Pirates’ Double-A affiliate — are on the road in Erie, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. RHP Yeudy Garcia would have started for the Curve.
