Ivan Nova and Francisco Cervelli Leave Tuesday’s Game Early

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates lost right-handed pitcher Ivan Nova and catcher Francisco Cervelli during Tuesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Nova left after six innings and his injury was announced as left knee inflammation. The Pirates said he was day-to-day. The knee has bothered him for some time, almost causing him to miss his start against the Atlanta Braves late last month.

Cervelli left in the ninth inning after taking a foul ball off of the mask. Elias Diaz replaced him behind the plate. If the Pirates were to need another catcher, they would have to add one to the 40-man roster. Jacob Stallings would be the top choice from Indianapolis, although Jackson Williams also has Major League experience. Chris Stewart can’t return from the DL until Friday.

We will post an update if one is given for Cervelli.

The Pirates lost the game 6-5 in the tenth.
