Will Craig is the Pirates Prospects Player of the Month for June

Published:

Will Craig got off to a slow start this year, hitting for a .737 OPS in April, and a .750 OPS in May. The pitcher friendly Florida State League aside, that wasn’t the start to the year that you’d expect from a first round college pick. Over the last month, Craig has shown what made him a first round talent, hitting for a .972 OPS with two homers in 82 at-bats. That was the best result in the system, making Craig the Pirates Prospects Player of the Month for the month of June.

Craig has actually been making hard contact prior to the turn of the calendar to June. He had multiple hits in two of the last four games in the month of May, and carried that over with multiple hits in five of his first seven games in June. Out of the 22 games during the month of June, Craig reached base safely in 19 games. He also had six doubles and one triple.

Just like the start of the month, Craig finished strong. He went 8-for-20 with three doubles in his final five games of the month, picking up multiple hits in three of those games. Aside from the offense, Craig has also shown good defense at first base.

We will have more on Craig in an article later today, detailing what has been going so well for him.
