Minor Moves: Cruz and German Added to West Virginia, Cederlind and Nunez to the DL

Published:

The Pirates have made a series of moves in the last 12 hours, all related to the trade deadline.

They added infielder Oneil Cruz and right-handed pitcher Angel German to the West Virginia Power roster. Both players were acquired yesterday for Tony Watson. To make room, pitchers Blake Cederlind and Oddy Nunez were both placed on the disabled list, retroactive 7/27. No reason was given for either move, although Nunez is getting up there in innings.

It’s not a surprise that German is going to this level. He was in Low-A with the Dodgers, and seemed to be handling the assignment well. It’s a bit of a surprise that Cruz was sent to Low-A. He was in Low-A with the Dodgers, but statistically wasn’t handling it well, and is only 18 years old.

The Pirates also moved Miguel Rosario from Altoona to Bradenton, giving the Marauders a replacement in their bullpen for Seth McGarry, who was traded to the Phillies for Joaquin Benoit.
