Pirates trade Octavio Dotel, Javier Lopez

The Pittsburgh Pirates made two moves before the deadline, sending Javier Lopez to the San Francisco Giants, and Octavio Dotel to the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Despite a lot of rumors, Paul Maholm remained with the team through the deadline. Paul Maholm Trade Deadline Rumors

Yesterday it was reported that three teams were in contact with the Pittsburgh Pirates on starting pitcher Paul Maholm.  Those three teams were the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the New York Mets. Pirates send Carrasco, Church, Crosby to Arizona for Snyder

The Pittsburgh Pirates have sent reliever D.J. Carrasco, outfielder Ryan Church, and infielder Bobby Crosby to the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the trade for catcher Chris Snyder (here is Snyder’s player page).  The deal is basically Carrasco for Snyder, as Church and Crosby have no value, and will basically be traded to off-set salaries. Pirates to call up Argenis Diaz and Jeff Clement
