Pirates Prospects Job Openings

I am looking to add writers to the site for the 2014 season. In the past I’ve received a lot of interest when posting job openings. It’s usually impossible to respond to all of them, especially with Spring Training taking place. Most of the interest is in the major league position, for obvious reasons, but we have more openings for minor league coverage, again for obvious reasons. The details for each position are below,...

Fangraphs Releases Top 15 Pirates Prospects List

Fangraphs has posted their top 15 Pittsburgh Pirates prospects list today and the beginning of the list is in line with what we saw yesterday from Jonathan Mayo and what we have posted here for our own rankings. First Pitch: The Annual “West Virginia is the Team to Watch” Post

Earlier today, Baseball Prospectus rated the Pittsburgh Pirates with the third best farm system in baseball. They’ve been rated in the top three by pretty much every outlet, so the ranking isn’t the big news that came out of that article. Composite List of Prospect Rankings Has Eight Pirates In Top 100

Last week, Baseball America released their top 100 prospect list, putting seven Pirates on their top 100 list. Along with that, we mentioned four other major prospect rankings lists and where the Pirates players ended up on each list. Today, Jonathan Mayo made a composite list of those five lists and eight Pittsburgh Pirates prospects made the top 95. If a player wasn’t listed in the top 100, Mayo used 101 as the default ranking...

Taiwan is a Baseball Hotbed, and the Pirates are Getting a Strong Presence There

“We’re working very hard to be global. Not just in the Dominican, but as we spread out, there’s ballplayers everywhere, and our challenge is to go find them, as it is for the other 29 teams.” That was Clint Hurdle when I talked to him last week about the talent that is coming to the Pirates out of Latin America. Hurdle probably didn’t have to point that out. The track record for the Pirates speaks for...

Spring Training Notes: Stolmy Pimentel and Tony Sanchez Impress

It was during the Black and Gold game last year that I first saw Stolmy Pimentel. The right-hander was acquired from the Boston Red Sox in December 2012, and pitched in relief in the intrasquad game to kick off the Spring Training schedule. I was impressed with Pimentel at the time, and I wasn’t the only one. Last week I wrote about Pimentel, and included Ray Searage’s reaction to that game, when he first noticed...
