Morning Report: Revisiting the Comparison Between Two Five-Tool Outfielders

Down in the GCL, outfielder Alexis Bastardo is quietly having a strong season in his limited playing time. Part of the reason he hasn’t seen much time, is that he was battling a shoulder injury early in the year. When doing the top prospects list from the DSL last year, I got reports that Bastardo was just as good as fellow GCL outfielder Tito Polo. First Pitch: The Pirates Might Be Getting a Big Boost Over the Final Six Weeks

A few weeks ago, things weren’t looking good with Gerrit Cole’s rehab work. The right-handed pitcher was coming off a poor second rehab start with Indianapolis, and talked about how he felt “brutal” after the first outing. If you’re unfamiliar with the Prospect Guide, it’s a book we release every year, detailing every player in the minor league system. The scouting reports came out in December, but it’s still a reference I use daily...

Neil Walker Returns to the Pirates Lineup, But Jordy Mercer is Out

Neil Walker has returned to the Pittsburgh Pirates lineup tonight, batting fourth and playing second base. The lineup also features Pedro Alvarez returning to third base, most likely due to the absence of Jordy Mercer. Mercer left yesterday’s game with soreness in his arm. Josh Harrison will be replacing him at shortstop. The lineup is posted below. Here's the #Pirates lineup for tonight's game in DC....
