Prospect Watch: Big Night For JaCoby Jones and West Virginia’s Bats

TOP OF THE SYSTEM A look at how the current top 20 prospects did today.  Note that this list doesn’t include players currently in the majors. If a player is in the majors, he will be removed, everyone below him will be shifted up a spot, and a new player will be added to the bottom of the list. If a player is out for the season (Jameson Taillon #1, Clay Holmes #12), he will be removed and everyone below him will move up a spot....

Scout: Nick Kingham is a Poor Man’s Gerrit Cole

Following a fast start at Triple-A, Nick Kingham has come back down to Earth as of late. However, this has not dashed one American League scout’s opinion on the right-hander. The scout referred to Kingham as having the possibility as a frontline starter in Pittsburgh. “He has a hard change, but good fade,” the scout said. “There is late slider run and command with the fastball.” These pitches allow the scout to compare him to...

Morning Report: Revisiting the Comparison Between Two Five-Tool Outfielders

Elias Diaz Promoted to Indianapolis

The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted catcher Elias Diaz from Altoona to Indianapolis. Ramon Cabrera, who was recently claimed off waivers, replaces Diaz on the Altoona roster. Diaz has a .328/.378/.445 line in 326 at-bats with Altoona this year. Earlier today I wrote about his progression, looking back at the scouting report on him coming into the season. He’s always had the strong defense, but the hitting this year has come...
