The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced the signings of seven minor league free agents today. We had heard previously about Michael Martinez and Brandon Mann, while Kyle McPherson has returned to the organization. Pirates Had the Strongest 2013 Draft, According to Jim Callis

Jim Callis of MLB.com reviewed the 2013 draft today, and picked the Pittsburgh Pirates as the team with the best draft in the majors. Several options went off the board, although the Pirates still have plenty of possibilities if they want to find a first baseman to platoon...

Pirates Designate Jerry Sands and Ryan Reid For Assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates have made the signings of Edinson Volquez and Clint Barmes official. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated Jerry Sands and Ryan Reid for assignment. Sands isn’t a surprise, since he was out of options and didn’t fit into the Pirates plans as a top choice for the right field position. He had horrible numbers in Triple-A last year, along with some injury problems. If he clears...
