Climbing Out Of The Canyon – Part 1

Pat from Where have you gone, Andy Van Slyke prominently displays this quote from the legendary center fielder on his blog: “Every season has its peaks and valleys. What you have to try to do is eliminate the Grand Canyon.” Pat’s banner reminds the casual Pirate fan that we haven’t finished with a winning record since 1992. Essentially we’re “in the canyon: 14 years and counting.” But, for the...

The Ugliest Alternate Jersey I've Ever Seen

Hello all, I’d like to give a quick introduction of myself before I get into the meat of my first quick post at MVN. I’m Cory Humes of A New Pirates Generation and Pittsburgh Pirates Roundtable. Black Hole at First

I almost vomited today. I don’t claim to have a long streak without having thrown up. Certainly not as long as Seinfeld claimed in an episode. I’m not sick. I didn’t eat anything disagreeable. I looked at the recent performance of Bucco first baseman and I felt ill. I was reading Buster Olney’s blog at ESPN.com. He commented on the Adam LaRoche/Mike Gonzalez swap and specifically said (I’m paraphrasing) that getting a power bat at...
