Prospect Highlights: Two Cole Tucker At-Bats and Videos of Four Other GCL Pirates Players

We have two at-bats from first round draft pick Cole Tucker, taken from Friday’s GCL game. It’s proof that baseball has a way of evening things out. In one at-bat, he hits the ball well and the right fielder makes a nice play to rob him. On the other, just a soft grounder up the middle that gets by the pitcher for a hit. That hit was the only one for Tucker in his last five games. His average to start Monday was down to...

Prospect Highlights: A Five-Tool Outfielder By the Name of Tito Polo

When I was ranking the top ten players from the DSL last year, I had a lot of input on the team from first-hand sources and they all praised outfielder Tito Polo, saying he could do anything on the field. I got similar, but slightly lesser reports about outfielder Alexis Bastardo and decided to rank him one spot ahead of Polo for two reasons. Prospect Highlights: Homers From Tony Sanchez and Gift Ngoepe, Jaff Decker’s Web Gem

Yesterday, we posted an article about the recent struggles of Tony Sanchez, who has seen his average drop to .203 through 41 games in Indianapolis. He batted .145 in the month of June, but has picked things up a little in July. Yesterday, he went 1-for-5 with two walks in a doubleheader. That one hit was a big one, a three-run homer seen below. It was the sixth homer for Sanchez in AAA and eighth on the season. Your browser does not...

Prospect Highlights: First Look at Big Bonus Third Baseman

During the 2012 July 2nd signing period, the Pittsburgh Pirates gave out two $700,000 bonuses, one to center fielder Michael de la Cruz, and another to third baseman Julio de la Cruz. Despite the same last name and equal bonuses, the two are not related. Both are on the same path towards the Majors, spending all of last season in the DSL, then moving to the GCL this year. When they signed, Julio was considered the better of the two...

Prospect Highlights: First Look at Some GCL Pirates Pitchers

On Sunday, we took a look at some video from the GCL Pirates, including a first look at 21st round draft pick Eric Thomas Jr and more footage of Andrew Lambo on rehab and first round pick Cole Tucker. Today we have more video from the GCL courtesy of the GCL Pirates fan page, this time getting a look at three pitchers for the first time. Left-handed pitcher Gerardo Navarro started for the GCL Pirates on Tuesday. He has made four...
